In support of the aims and objectives of the broader
Local Transport Plan
, the South Yorkshire
Bus Strategy (September 2001) aims to improve the integration and co-ordination
of rural bus services at suburban interchanges to improve rural service
provision. The strategy also recognises the need to continue the development of
non-conventional services, eg, taxibuses, community transport, acting as
reasonable alternatives or complementing mainstream commercial bus services.
Particular emphasis is placed on promoting social inclusion and accessibility to employment opportunities through improvements in rural transport services within former mining communities, particularly relevant within the Challenge Area, and other communities affected by high levels of unemployment.
