SOUTH & WEST YORKSHIRE RTP

PRINT FRIENDLY

The South and West Yorkshire Rural Transport Partnership (RTP) is a scheme established by the Countryside Agency to develop and support community based transport initiatives.

The RTP aims to improve access to jobs, services and social activities for rural people in addition to enhancing visitor access to the countryside.

Local forums, based on existing rural initiatives, in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield undertake the RTP function in South Yorkshire with the exception of those communities in east Barnsley that are served by the Coalfields RTP.

The Forums are made up of representatives of the local communities, local authorities, councillors, parish councils, local interest groups, commercial operators, community transport operators, the Countryside Agency and SYPTE.

These meet regularly to develop projects and initiatives being developed throughout South Yorkshire. Examples of projects developed through this process include:

  • Penistone Rural Ride Community Transport Scheme
  • Penistone Taxibus
  • Stocksbridge Taxibus
  • Barnsley Quality Rural Bus Network
  • Tickhill Taxibus
  • RotherRide Community Transport
  • Harthill to Swinton Rail & Employment Link
  • Stocksbridge Flyer Community Transport Scheme
  • Transport Grants to Parish Councils in Doncaster & Sheffield
  • Bus stop, shelter and information improvements across rural South Yorkshire
  • Better public transport information
