ROBIN HOOD COUNTY GETS TRANSPORT LINK (10TH MAY)

PRINT FRIENDLY

Exploring the beauty of Sherwood Forest will be made easier from May 16th when a weekend bus takes to the roads offering a direct link to many local tourist attractions.

Transport Executive officials and operators First, South Yorkshire have got together to re-introduce the 150/151 Sherwood Forester service which will run on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays throughout the summer.

The 150/151 offers direct links for passengers to tourist attractions including Rother Valley Country Park, Creswell Crags, Sherwood Forest Country Park, Clumber Park and the Dukeries Garden Centre.

The initiative is part of the South Rotherham Rural Bus Challenge project, which forms part of South Yorkshire's Centre of Excellence designated by the Government.

Now in its third consecutive year, the ever-popular Sherwood Forester service was originally introduced as a result of a consultation exercise with thousands of residents in South Rotherham. Local people said they wanted better links to other recreational locations in the area.

Councillor Jack Mackay, chairman of the South Rotherham Rural Transport Forum said "We are always keen to look at ways of encouraging more people to use public transport and this service helps more people to travel to some of the area's finest attractions."

Following requests from passengers most journeys will now start and finish at Rotherham Interchange, calling at Wickersley, Thurcroft, Dinnington, Anston, Todwick, Kiveton Park, Wales and Harthill.

Robert Shepherdson, the Transport Executive's Rural Team Leader, added: "We are delighted that, with the assistant of First, South Yorkshire, we are able to re-introduce this service which should make it easier for more people to get out and about.

"Together with the standard First Group Saver tickets, all of which are valid on this service, we are pleased to offer the £1.00 Special Day Rover ticket available to concessionary pass holders (valid on 150/151 only) and the £1.30 SeniorMaster for OAP's. An offer even Robin Hood would take advantage of, I'm sure you would agree."

Standard First charges will be included on the service, including the maximum £2.90 All day Saver and the £5.50 Family All Day Group Saver.

Full details are available from the Transport Executive's Travel Information Centres or by calling Traveline on 01709 515151.
