The Rural Links Network is successfully beating our Local Transport Plan performance targets for 2005/06. We set ourselves the countywide target of 75% of passengers being fairly or very satisfied with local bus services.
We have carefully monitored our Rural Links Network, and research has shown us that 86% of passengers using the network are either fairly or very satisfied with the service, exceeding our LTP target by 11%!
Unfortunately, our rural success (with regards to passenger satisfaction) is not reflected in the Local Transport Plan Annual Progress Report Monitoring Table, as the figure provided in the document is a countywide figure for both urban and rural bus services.
The Government has also set the target for the proportion of the rural population living within about 10 minutes walk of an hourly or better bus service to increase from 37% to 50% by 2010, it can be seen below that we have already outperformed this national target. The Transport Executive's infrastructure programme and the Rural Links Network link closely to the Local Transport Plan rural performance indicator, which is to have 95% of rural households within 800m of an hourly or better bus service. We are currently on track to meet this target in 2005/06 as 93.6% of rural households are currently within 800m of an hourly or better bus service.
